TripIt vs Wanderlog in 2026: what each one does, and what neither does

One app keeps your confirmations in order, the other helps you plan the days. Here's how to pick, or how to use both.

Aino publishes this guide and is building a trip planning app of its own, launching in winter 2027. Every other app here is described from its own site and store listings, with prices dated.

TripIt vs Wanderlog

Quick answer. TripIt organises what you've already booked. Wanderlog helps you plan what you'll do, on a map, with the people you're travelling with. Neither one books your activities, so you still book those one by one.

  • Pick TripIt if your trip is mostly flights, hotels and rental cars and you want every confirmation in one itinerary without typing it in.
  • Pick Wanderlog if you're still deciding what to do and want the days laid out on a map, edited together with friends.
  • Use both if you plan in detail and also fly a lot. Plan the days in Wanderlog, then forward every confirmation to TripIt.
  • For the activities themselves, you'll need the operator or a marketplace such as GetYourGuide or Viator.

Here's how the two compare as of October 2026, based on each company's own site, help pages and store listings.

How much do TripIt and Wanderlog cost?

Both are free to start, and the free versions do the main job of each app. Prices below are as of October 2026, in US dollars.

TripIt Pro costs $49 a year on TripIt's website, with a 30-day free trial. In the App Store and on Google Play it's $48.99 a year and renews automatically. If your company uses SAP Concur, TripIt says you may get Pro for free.

Wanderlog doesn't show a Pro price on its homepage. The US App Store lists Pro plans at $5.99 and $16.99 a month and from $31.99 to $59.99 a year. We couldn't confirm which price applies to which plan, so check the app before you subscribe.

If you only want one paid feature for one trip, a monthly Wanderlog plan for the month you travel may cost less than a year of either.

Where TripIt wins

TripIt is the easier way to keep a busy trip in order. You forward a confirmation to plans@tripit.com and it adds the flight, hotel or car to your itinerary, whichever site you booked on.

With Inbox Sync it reads your Gmail, Microsoft or Yahoo inbox and adds travel plans for you. You can also type in meetings and activities by hand.

The free app keeps your reservation details available offline. That matters when you land somewhere with no data and need the hotel address. You can sync plans to your calendar and share them with anyone you choose.

Pro is aimed at people who fly a lot. It adds real-time flight alerts, check-in reminders, a seat tracker, notices when a fare drops after you book and interactive airport maps.

Where Wanderlog wins

Wanderlog is for the earlier part of the trip, when you're still choosing what to do. You add places to each day, see them on the map and check how long it takes to get from one to the next.

It works well for groups. Friends can edit the same trip at the same time, and you can set a budget, track spending and split bills inside the app.

You can add places from travel guides with one tap and forward confirmation emails to pull in flights and hotels. Wanderlog's help centre also shows how to compare and book hotels from your trip plan.

Some extras need Pro. Wanderlog's homepage lists offline access, route optimisation, export to Google Maps, automatic Gmail scanning and live flight updates as Pro features.

What neither app does: book your activities

TripIt only knows about things you've already booked, and Wanderlog's plan doesn't sell the tours on it. We found no way in either app to check whether an activity has space on your date, or to book it.

Take a three-day winter trip to Rovaniemi with a husky safari, a reindeer farm and an evening northern lights tour. That's three separate bookings, often with three different operators or across GetYourGuide and Viator.

After each one, you forward the confirmation to TripIt or type the time into Wanderlog. Then you check by hand that the pick-up times and drives between activities still work.

Some activities can't be booked online at all. Arival, a travel research firm, found that only 33% of experiences were booked online in 2025, against 64% of travel overall. That means some of your bookings may be an email or a phone call.

If you're heading to Lapland in winter, book the date-critical activities first. We cover which ones in what to book ahead in Lapland, and we compare the marketplaces in GetYourGuide vs Viator vs Klook.

Should you use TripIt, Wanderlog or both?

Use TripIt alone if the trip is already decided and you mainly need your bookings in one place. Use Wanderlog alone if you're planning days of sightseeing with friends and don't fly much.

Use both if you do a lot of both. Plan in Wanderlog, book each activity, then forward every confirmation to TripIt so the day of travel is covered.

If neither fits, we compare seven other options, including AI planners and booking apps, in Wanderlog alternatives in 2026.

Frequently asked questions

Is TripIt or Wanderlog better?

It depends on the job. TripIt is better at turning confirmation emails into one itinerary, and Wanderlog is better at planning what to do on a map with friends. Many travellers use both.

Are TripIt and Wanderlog free?

Both have free versions. As of October 2026, TripIt Pro costs $49 a year on TripIt's site ($48.99 in the app stores), and the US App Store lists Wanderlog Pro plans from $5.99 a month and from $31.99 to $59.99 a year.

Which one works offline?

TripIt's free app lets you look up reservation details offline. Wanderlog lists offline access to your trip plans as a Pro feature, as of October 2026.

Can I use TripIt and Wanderlog together?

Yes. A common setup is to plan the days in Wanderlog and forward every confirmation to TripIt, so the bookings and their times sit in one itinerary. Both apps accept forwarded confirmation emails.

Can TripIt or Wanderlog book tours and activities?

We couldn't find a way to book tours or activities in either app. Wanderlog helps you find and book hotels, and TripIt organises bookings you make elsewhere. Activities are booked with the operator or on a marketplace such as GetYourGuide or Viator.
