The best Wanderlog alternatives in 2026, and who each one suits

Seven apps compared on what they plan, what they book and what they cost as of October 2026.

Aino publishes this guide and is building a trip planning app of its own, launching in winter 2027. Every other app here is described from its own site and store listings, with prices dated.

Wanderlog alternatives

Quick answer. Wanderlog is a well-rated free app for putting a trip on a map and planning it with friends. Most people who switch want help with a part Wanderlog leaves to them, such as drafting the plan with AI, keeping confirmations in order or booking the activities. Pick the alternative that covers your missing part.

  • AI planning that can also book flights, stays and restaurants: Mindtrip.
  • AI planning plus human travel advisors who book for you: Layla.
  • A free AI itinerary built on Tripadvisor reviews, no account needed to start: Tripadvisor AI Assistant.
  • A planner that works a lot like Wanderlog, with a budget tracker and travel journal: Stippl.
  • All your flight and hotel confirmations in one itinerary: TripIt.
  • Booking the tours and activities themselves: GetYourGuide or Viator.

Why do people look for a Wanderlog alternative?

Wanderlog does a lot well. The planner is free, your itinerary and map sit in one view, and friends can edit the same trip with you in real time.

You can forward confirmation emails to pull in flights and hotels, set a budget and split costs with the group.

It has a 4.9 rating from about 36,000 ratings on the US App Store and 4.7 from 37,200 reviews on Google Play, and Wanderlog says more than 8 million trips have been planned with it.

Some of the features people expect from a planner sit behind Wanderlog Pro. Its homepage lists offline access, route optimisation, export to Google Maps and automatic Gmail scanning as Pro features, and the Google Play listing marks offline trip plans as Pro.

The bigger reason people look around is what happens after the plan is made.

Wanderlog's help centre shows you how to find and book hotels, but we couldn't find a way to book tours or activities inside the app. So you still go to each operator or marketplace, book every activity one at a time and add the details back to your plan.

That can take a while, because a lot of activities still aren't sold online at all. Only 33% of experiences were booked online in 2025, against 64% of travel overall, according to the travel research firm Arival.

Others simply want a faster first draft. Wanderlog has an AI assistant, but the app is built around you adding places yourself, and some people would rather describe the trip and get a plan back.

How we compared these apps

On 13 October 2026 we read each app's own website, help pages and App Store or Google Play listing. We didn't make test bookings.

For every app we looked at what it helps you plan, whether you can book activities in it, what it costs, which devices it runs on and how it works for a group.

Prices are as of October 2026, in the currency the company shows. Ratings are from the US App Store unless we say otherwise.

Aino is building its own trip planner, so it isn't ranked here. You'll find a short note on it near the end.

Mindtrip: AI planning with flight, hotel and restaurant booking

Mindtrip is an AI travel assistant made by Mindtrip, Inc. You chat about where you're going and what you like, and it suggests places to stay, eat and visit, builds an itinerary and shows it on a map with routes and nearby places. Its homepage says you can find and book flights, stays and restaurants, and the app lists restaurant reservations the assistant can make for you.

For groups, the App Store listing says you can invite friends into group chats and share collections and itineraries you edit together.

Layla: an AI planner with human advisors who book for you

Layla builds a day by day plan from your dates, budget and travel style, and its FAQ says it does this "using live pricing and availability".

What sets it apart is the human side. You can hand the trip to one of Layla's travel advisors, who can make the bookings and change them later. The FAQ also says Layla compares live prices for flights, hotels, trains and activities.

Tripadvisor AI Assistant: a free AI draft built on traveller reviews

Tripadvisor's AI Assistant runs on its website and asks a few follow-up questions about your dates and who's coming. It then suggests hotels, restaurants and things to do, drawing on what Tripadvisor calls more than 1 billion traveller reviews, and says it checks live prices and availability.

You can start without an account and sign in to save. Saved plans go to your Trips, where you can rearrange days, add or remove stops and share the plan.

Stippl: the closest match to how Wanderlog works

Stippl, made by Stippl B.V., is a trip planner with a map, distances and travel times between stops, and a day by day timeline. You can invite unlimited co-planners, track and split expenses, keep packing lists and write a travel journal during the trip.

After you're home it can turn the trip into a short video reel. Stippl says 1.5 million travellers have joined and that it has a 4.7 rating from more than 8,000 App Store ratings and 4.4 on Google Play.

TripIt: for keeping your bookings in one place

TripIt, owned by Concur, works the other way round from Wanderlog. You forward your confirmation emails to plans@tripit.com, or connect your inbox with Inbox Sync, and it builds an itinerary from what you've booked.

You can still look up reservation details offline, sync plans to your calendar and share them with anyone you choose. TripIt Pro adds live flight alerts, a seat tracker, fare-drop notices and airport maps.

TripIt says nearly 20 million travellers have joined, and it has 4.8 from about 312,000 App Store ratings.

If you're choosing between just these two, we compare them in more detail in TripIt vs Wanderlog: which one you actually need.

GetYourGuide: for booking the activities themselves

GetYourGuide is an activities marketplace, and it fills the gap Wanderlog leaves around tours. As of October 2026 its Rovaniemi page lists more than 500 results, from husky rides to northern lights tours.

The app offers free cancellation up to 24 hours before most activities, a reserve now, pay later option on selected listings and tickets you can open offline. It has 4.9 from about 330,000 App Store ratings.

Viator: a second big activities marketplace

Viator is a Tripadvisor company that sells tours and activities. As of October 2026 its Rovaniemi page shows more than 600 results.

The App Store listing promises free cancellation up to 24 hours in advance, reserve now and pay later, and tickets you can access offline. It has 4.9 from about 293,000 App Store ratings.

We look at the activity marketplaces side by side in GetYourGuide vs Viator vs Klook.

Which Wanderlog alternative should you choose?

Start with the part of trip planning that takes you longest.

If staring at a blank itinerary is the hard part, try an AI planner. Mindtrip is free and good for groups if everyone has an iPhone or is happy on the web.

The Tripadvisor AI Assistant is the quickest free draft. Layla makes sense when you'd like a person to take the bookings off your hands.

For a wider look at this group, see our guide to the best AI trip planners.

If you like Wanderlog's way of planning and just want something different, Stippl is the nearest match. If your trip is mostly flights and hotels and you lose track of confirmations, TripIt does that one job well.

If the activities are what you're planning around, you'll probably end up combining apps. Take a winter trip to Rovaniemi.

You might sketch the days in Wanderlog or Stippl, book a husky safari on GetYourGuide, a reindeer farm on Viator and a sauna evening directly with the operator, then forward every confirmation to TripIt.

December is by far Lapland's busiest winter month, so the booking step is where waiting costs you places. We explain which ones to lock in first in Lapland winter activities: what to book ahead.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best free alternative to Wanderlog?

Stippl is the closest free alternative in how it works, with a shared itinerary, a map, budgets and a travel journal. If you want AI to draft the trip for free, Mindtrip and the Tripadvisor AI Assistant both cost nothing to use, as of October 2026.

Is Wanderlog free?

The core planner is free. Wanderlog Pro adds features such as offline access, route optimisation and export to Google Maps. As of October 2026 the US App Store lists Pro plans from $5.99 a month and from $31.99 to $59.99 a year, and we couldn't confirm which price applies to which plan.

Can you book tours and activities in Wanderlog?

Wanderlog's help centre explains how to find and book hotels, but we couldn't find a way to book tours or activities inside the app. Most people book those on GetYourGuide, Viator or with the operator and then add the details to their Wanderlog plan.

Is TripIt a good alternative to Wanderlog?

Only if your problem is keeping bookings in order. TripIt builds an itinerary from the confirmation emails you forward to it, while Wanderlog is for deciding what to do and putting it on a map. Plenty of travellers use both.

Which Wanderlog alternatives use AI?

Mindtrip, Layla and the Tripadvisor AI Assistant are built around an AI chat that drafts the trip for you. Stippl has an AI planner too, with unlimited AI trip generation in its paid Pro plan. Wanderlog itself lists an AI assistant on its homepage.
